Cole!

The Challenge That Won My Heart

Your quest for freedom that had been your ticket to survival in a harsh environment challenged me to my limits. You were running scared and hard and didn't believe people could help you. Houses and domestic life were off limits in your old world and you couldn't get over that you wouldn't be kicked coming through the front door or shooed off. You were able to chew, pull, dig, or jump your way out of any confinement. You were desperate for the freedom to care for yourself as you had done for so many years outliving all your comrades until the day you weren't fast enough to avoid the car that aimed to hit you and you fled to the beach to die in pain.

Thankfully your Angel Gail from BHR has a network of angels in remote communities who found you and took you under their wings. Angel Gail believed in you and in me. She connected us and had the insight to guide both of us to a wonderful 2 year journey together. You were gentle, soulful, spiritual, beautiful, and amazing.

You learned to trust people and the safety of our land. You loved ambling around the property and hanging with the guys in the shop where you would get a scritch behind the ears. You loved your soft nest of sweet smelling shavings and hay and you loved being served breakfast in bed and the special dinners of baked Alaskan Black Cod - just the right kind of dinner for a tough dog of sled dog descent!

I sure hope you are in a better place running free and fast along the beaches. I also hope you will see me watching you run in your powerful beauty.

Be free again,

I will miss you sweet old man!

Your one and only true family.

Cole's Story

They say my name is Cole and I am a very senior gent who is in pain.

Pain from being run over by a car, pain from spending all my years outside without the kindness of being a beloved family member, pain in my bones, in my joints and in my heart.

What hurts me the most is my heart and no one can see this.  My heart is hurt because as much as I sought love I could not find it, my spirit was ignored and not tended to, my soul was not encouraged to fly and explore all the wonderful offerings of a beloved friend.

I think what would help to heal my pain is a family who will understand my heart, who will hear my pleading for a kind hand and soft eyes that will look into mine and will help me find peace while I have time left here on earth.

I know it will take time for me to find this family, a family that will accept and understand my past yet help me feel secure as I venture into tomorrow.  I can wait for this but I hope the wait is not too long, for there are only so many days on earth that each soul is allowed to enjoy the sun, feel the breeze and rest by the comfort of a fire.

The desire for me to be with my people is stronger than anything else that draws on my strength.  I not only want to be with people, I need to be with people.  Knowing I am always safe with them by my side, to help me understand that the pain in my heart will heal and I may play as freely as a new pup, a chance I never had.

If you feel we can share our lives together please send Gail a note at spiritsmission@shaw.ca  and let her know you would like an application to adopt me.

With hope and anticipation,

Cole

Update: 27 October

How do we begin to say thank you to Kerri-Lynne and Terry who have once again taken on a forever foster by the name of Cole!

This beautiful huge boy has found his home, where he will be loved for who he is, who is accepted with all his quirks and who is adored today and always.

He now joins his forever foster sister Pearl and his two other dog sisters as they begin their lives together, enjoying play time on the farm and love that knows no bounds.

With heart filled gratitude for all your care and compassion, Kerri-Lynne and Terry you are truly a blessing to those that are in desperate need of your dedication.
